What to Expect

On your day of your surgery, it is important to have an understanding of what to expect and have all your questions addressed.

The following groups of questions address common questions from patients in the breakdown of what to expect during each phase of surgery. If you require further information please feel free to reach out to us at the number provided or your providers office.

What to Expect Before Your Surgery

Prior to your procedure, it is important to complete a health questionnaire. This informs the team at The Minimally Invasive Surgery Center of New England of your state of health at time of surgery. A nurse from the surgery center will be contacting you prior to your procedure to discuss the procedure and to go over your health form.
  • The nurse will also discuss with you what you should expect the day of surgery and your discharge instructions. Some further lab or diagnostic tests may be necessary, which should be completed within 30 days of your planned procedure.
  • You will receive a phone call prior to your scheduled surgery that will explain the parameters around fluids and food intake as well as arrival time.
  • Take only the medications that were advised to you from the nurse or your physician prior to surgery.
  • Please make sure you have arranged transportation to and from the surgery center.
  • Remember to leave all valuables at home.
  • Please bring your picture ID and insurance card on your day of surgery.
  • Please remove all make up day of surgery along with all jewelry and piercings.
  • In the event you wear glasses, please bring your eyeglass case to secure them.
  • No contacts are allowed please remove prior to surgery.
  • If you wear a hearing aid or dentures, please wear them to The Surgery Center. Depending on procedure, you may have to remove them. If removed, they will be returned after your procedure.
  • If you use an inhaler or insulin, please bring them with you the day of your procedure.

What to Expect During Your Surgery

Patient safety is the top priority at our surgery center. You may notice during your time with us being asked the same questions about your name, allergies, procedure verification. If you have a concern about your surgery, you are encouraged to contact our Surgery Center at (603) 218-1912.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

Prior to leaving our center, you will receive detailed discharge instructions. Your nurse will go over these instructions with you and your significant other.
  • Please plan on having a responsible adult stay with you the first 24 hours after your procedure if you received general anesthesia.
  • At home, take time to rest. Avoid the use of alcoholic beverages, driving, or operating machinery.
  • Please resume all prescribed medications as ordered by your physician.
  • You will receive a post-operative phone call within 72 hours of your procedure. The nurse will address any questions or concerns at this time.
  • If you have any questions during normal business hours you can call The Minimally Invasive Surgery Center of New England at (603) 218-1912. After business hours, please call your surgeon’s office with any questions.
